At the halfway point, you'll find The only freshwater lake in the entire Tuscan Archipelago, simply known as "Lo Stagnone." Despite its modest size, this body of water represents a true oasis and an essential stop on migratory routes.stories of various species of birds. From the Stagnone, you climb the trail that leads to Mount Le Penne, always with exceptional views of Corsica and sheer cliffs plunging into the blue sea below. Then you descend through the ruins of the old agricultural colony, now abandoned for 40 years. Capraia is a wild island waiting to be discovered; here, time stands still and life is lived to the full. This race, classified as an Easy Trail, does not present any major technical difficulties (though caution is still required), meaning it is a nature trail along the island's beautiful paths and through ups and downs. Stage 3 - Pianosa Island Gravel Run
- Saturday, September 26, 2026 - Stage 3 - Pianosa Island - Circumnavigation of the Island - 12.5km
The Experience: The Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea
Pianosa Island – Strict Nature Reserve of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. *Running on Pianosa in a nature reserve is truly unique; having received the park's approval to run in this paradise is a unique privilege (this is the first time such permission has been granted). Any advice? Get your bib number; this experience alone could make it all worthwhile. Departure from Elba by boat at 8:45 a.m., arriving on the island at approximately 9:30 a.m. Once disembarked on Pianosa Island, we'll immediately feel like we've arrived in a unique place, where the turquoise sea and exuberant, unspoiled nature reign supreme. The start is at 11:30 a.m. at the entrance to the former prison complex. The route is a loop that winds from the town toward the island's interior, revealing a hidden world just steps away. There will be two staggered departures (details and times will be shared later). After skirting the vegetable gardens currently cultivated by the inmates in the former chicken coop, the trail continues toward the western coast, characterized by spectacular cliffs, near the Golfo della Botte. The route continues north to the panoramic Belvedere and then reaches the ruins of the Il Marchese prison complex. From here, you can admire the stunning Porto Romano cove from above. Running inside the former penal colony will immerse you in a timeless atmosphere. Meanwhile, running along the stunning coastline of the "flat" island will reveal a unique natural beauty. On the home stretch, our gaze will be drawn to a picturesque backdrop: on one side, the abandoned village of Pianosa, and on the other, the spectacular Cala Giovanna, whose turquoise waters beckon you for an unforgettable post-race swim. This is a unique stage and circular route, and certainly flat, given that it is the flattest island in the archipelago, with a maximum elevation of just 29 meters. On your incredibly scenic and wild route, you'll circumnavigate the entire island, admiring the white sedimentary limestone rocks reflecting the light from your path. A marvelous island to discover while running... it will be an experience you'll cherish for a lifetime, simply UNFORGETTABLE.
